The SSD SVC system is decidedly a custom design to fit each customer’s specific transmission needs. All projects will include switched branches, whereas at least one branch includes thyristors, and the successive combination of branches can be varied a lot depending on requirements. Projects typically include very specific SSD designs with a combination of at least two thyristor types as defined below:
Thyristor controlled reactor (TCR)
Thyristor Switched Capacitor (TSC)
- Harmonic filter (FC)
- Mechanically switched capacitor bank (MSC) or reactor bank (MSR)
Most common topologies for SVCs are: TCR/FC or TCR/TSC/FC. SSD SVC installations include compact cooling, branch design & installation, and low loss topologies, by reducing the filter size. Hybrid designs can include mechanically switched banks with both HV and LV side of SVC transformer, to further increase the total reactive control.
